It was a Basic economic car (fiat panda) but extremely economic, done a lot of local driving all 9 days but only needed to partially refill thank upon return, car had some minor scratches but that did not bother me, car had a good radio and aerial (sometimes aerials are missing making the radio un-usable), plus it had air-con.

Was charged for late 11pm pick-up €20(cash), was charged for early return 5am €20(cash), plus was charged €20 to add a second driver.

There was a motorway electronic tool charge device also in the car window which you need to leave a security debit/credit card deposit (like a visa pay slip with your signature), in case you drive in the motorway and incur costs then they will be able to deduct any charges via this blank pay slip, upon returning the car, they not able to give you back the blank pay slip as motorway charges only appear in the system after about 48hours, you can verify if you have incurred any tools charges via the post office web site link below:

A second empty/blank pay slip was also left as a deposit in case you do not return the petrol tank full, in my case it was full upon return, so they gave me the pay slip back to be destroyed.

They accepted the security deposit on debit card, as I do not have a credit card.

Finally I did not take any additional excess insurance cover.

One more thing, the rep and collection/delivery point are locate outside in the car hire car park, a short 2 minute walk to the left side of the airport.

Would certainly recommend it to friends and family and will use it again if the price is still right for me.

We did have to pay an extra 20 Euro for out of hours drop off but still worked out cheaper than the 24hr hire companies in the Terminal building. Would happily use "Ocean" again and have recommended them to people we met on Holiday.

Affordable Car Hire made the whole process very easy from the UK and gave clear directions to the hire zone which was just outside the Terminal building.

, May 21, 2013 @ 9:40 am I was a little disappointed before we set off on our holiday as I had to contact Affordable Car Hire 2 x days before travel as my 'voucher' had not been sent. It did arrive after I telephoned but could have done without the unnecessary 'worry'.

location details were spot on and contact easy to find. The literature that accompanied the voucher stated that the car hire was open 24 x hours, so was disappointed to be asked to pay an extra 20 x euros cash for out of hours drop off. I have been travelling to the Algarve for 13 x years and have never had to pay this so feel a little bit 'ripped off' at this. One of the reasons I booked with you was the fact that your Car Hire price was very competitive and your supplier was open 24 x hours, so will you refund my 20 x euros?

That apart the care hire arrangements were fine, the car was good and the agent very efficient.

On the return journey I asked if I could return the car full and only paid to top up the fuel tank, which saved me 45 dollars.

, May 13, 2013 @ 8:43 pm It is 11 pm. We have completed the Online Form to hire the car and paid using a Debit card that has 1000's pounds on it.

We arrive to collect car and Lo & behold the Same care will not go through your system. My wife who has recently had 5 metal plates fixed to her spine via surgery due to cancer had to walk All the way to the pick up point to try and sort this out.

We had to pay 70 euros extra in cash so we could take the car which also was not the one we orderd. We are disgusted with this as the same card was used to book the car online

So would not use your company again.

, May 2, 2013 @ 1:18 am We needed a car that was roadworthy, clean and inexpensive. That's what we got. The service when we picked it up was fine, though not the easiest place to find, from a van in the middle of the airport car park! The car itself was fine, did the job, my only complaint would be that the windscreen wipers were not very good, they left the screen with smears and were very noisy! The service on drop off was just OK, a little abrupt but as it was busy maybe understandable.

, April 24, 2013 @ 10:32 am We have rented a small car (Fiat 500) for a weekend in Palma de Mallorca, pick up from the airport.

Pros:
- a nice, new, clean car
- quick return service

Cons:
- a bit ambiguous directions - we were told that the person will be waiting for us outside the terminal and it will be a shuttle service - it was actually a little difficult to find out what exactly we should expect and who to look for. the airport information was helpful though and finally a shuttle minibus came to pick us up
- late pick up fee - our plane was late and we arrived after the opening hours, which resulted in the penalty fee, which was essentially 150% of our rental fee - this extra fess could be presented better on a website
- in the office they do not accept debit cards, american express nor cash, so you'd better have your visa / mastercard credit card or cry!

However once I was allocated the car hire company (OK Car Hire) I was stung with an out of hours payment charge (as my plane was delayed) and although I upgrated my insurance though Affordable Car Hire, I still had to upgrage at the car hire compnay. The lady behind the OK Car Rental reception was rude and would not let me use their toilet.

Adding in the late payment charge and extra insurance, I'm sure my total cost was the same as if I used a well known hire company

, April 20, 2013 @ 9:58 pm Generally Europcar handled my car hire well, and the link with Tesco vouchers made the cost accessible for me. The lady at the bureau was pleasant and helpful.
But there was a problem with collection, in that I arrived by train, went to Lannion airport to collect the car, only to find a note (in French) saying that I had to collect from another location. If I hadn't been able to get a lift along a main road to the Europcar office, I don't know what I would have done. I now understand that this is not unusual for Lannion airport bookings, so please beware!

In fairness, Europcar has answered my internet feedback comment immedately, and although I can understand the reasons for the empty airport office, I'm not convinced that it is satisfactory to book a car from one location and have to pick it up at another. I have had an apology but no recompense.
The only other issue was that the car had a dent in it, but that was marked down on the booking sheet and I wasn't worried about it.

The rep was waiting for me just outside the arrivals and was very courteous. The car was very good although not the same model I saw in photo when booking. Asked for a child seat and that initially wasn't on the first hire paper, despite that they were happy to provide it. No complaints at all

However, it is not possible to comment further until actually taking the car (September 2013).We had an unfortunate experience previously (not with Europcar) when the car was over two years old with a very high mileage on it with no alternative available.

Chose this company as we specifically wanted a Dodge Charger and it was shown on booking as available. After what seemed a very long and drawn out handover on a pre-paid booking we were advised no Chargers at that site and ended up with a Chevy Impala - OK but other sites offered this car cheaper! That said the server was very helpful and cheerful.

, February 19, 2013 @ 7:24 pm We booked our hire car with Tesco vouchers, however we never managed to use the discount code online, therefore we had to make the booking via the phone.

In addition, it was unclear as european if we needed to get an international driving license based on your nationality. Budget in the US said no need rather than affordable car hire said we needed one. The final answer is that it`s recommended and not required.

The service in the US with Budget was very good from collecting, to returning the car. We even have been upgraded. Really recommend it.

, November 20, 2012 @ 8:49 pm I have now booked my holiday car hire via Affordable Car Hire for 2012 and 2013 using Tesco vouchers.

The booking process was straightforward, as was use of voucher codes - and good value.

Potential improvements
- I would like to book a specific make/model of car, this year I had the 'pleasure' of an horrific Citroen!! terrible automatic gears, a steering wheel F1 drivers would struggle with etc.
- Do away with the delivered tank full, return empty - this is nothing but a hidden charge
- Beware Goldcar will try to sell you their direct insurance, plua the usual excess waiver, both also hidden charges th\t should also be done away with
- why not be the car hire company with a difference and be transparent with ALL charges and let customers (many of whom have survived low cost airlines) merely collect the car they have chosen and paid for rather than hit for more cost

However pickup and drop experience was all good, hence booking once again with Affordable/Goldcar!!

, November 20, 2012 @ 11:53 am At the present time I can only comment on the booking process as the rental itself is not until March 2013. I shall add more after that time.

Having made a mess of trying to book on the 'Affordable' website, I called the office and was delighted to have my booking sorted out quickly, efficiently and very pleasantly by the young woman who answered my call.

I would emphasize to anyone booking on the website that you do need to be totally alert to the process. At least one of the 'Options' is included by default and if you don't want it you will have to clear a tick-box. Be aware that, if you are using a Tesco voucher for part of the payment, this has to be entered in the 'Discount Code' box along with the other details of the proposed rental. You should also be aware that once the voucher number has been entered, the system will count it as having been used and will not allow you to obtain an alternative quote using that voucher. If you want to compare a number of quotes on the site you will need to obtain these without using the voucher and only when you are decided on one should you enter the code to proceed to booking.

Only downside was even though we knew about the petrol policy being past customers I thought that 100 euros (£80.00) was steep to be charged when the car was only a small Yaris and there was no way it would take that much fuel!

As they now also do car hire i also booked a car. The prices were the best that i could find. I had a couple of questions, its a free 0800 number, they are extremely friendly, helpful and fast to get back to you. A1* all round - Well Done. They have gained a loyal customer who will return and recommend.

I found the quotes for renting their vehicles were a lot cheaper than other rental company. There were no hidden charges after I made the payment. One of their agents in San Diego is Advantage Cars. When we arrived San Diego, we got a free ride from Advantage, from the Airport to their office. The whole process of collecting and returning the car was seamless. We had no problems with the vehicle all through our stay in San Diego.I would recommend Affordable Car. I think they are very professional and reliable.

, September 29, 2012 @ 12:58 pm When I visited the collection desk I was served immediately I was asked if I wanted to upgrade or purchase additional insurance to which I declined. I had prepaid for the car, but nevertheless my credit card details were taken and I received an estimated bill of the cost of fuel and a $200 deposit. The advantage car collection point was the furthest away in MCO airport. On collecting the car I was astonished at the amount of damage on the car. The most damage being that the car had a large dent and scratches all along the whole of the right front and rear passenger door. I spoke to an advantage employee who told me its normal and that all their cars have damage! I was declined my request for another vehicle. I then proceeded to fill out the damage report form and got an employee to counter sign the form. Drop off of the car was quick and easy.

, September 24, 2012 @ 2:16 pm We used our tesco vouchers which was easy (shame minimum hire time is 7 days as we only needed the car for 5 but had to pay for 7). All the staff we spoke to on the phone were very helpful and nice.
Once in Spain, however, Goldcar were a little disorganised, the shuttle bus stop was not signed posted at all; when the bus came, it only could take 8 passengers at a time so we had to wait for ages to be taken to their offices! Once there, the queue was long and by the time it was our turn, they only had older cars left - we didn't get the one described but a smaller and older version. we had to pay for 7 days insurance even though only needed it for 5 days. and the fuel policy is awful, we paid 87 Euros for full tank but only used half a tank but got no money back. There should be an option to have either half a tank or full tank. The staff were nice though.
Otherwise, it was all ok. I will definitely use Affordable Car Hire again just not sure about the Goldcar. Thanks.

, September 24, 2012 @ 1:32 pm I arranged my Florida Car Hire with Affordable in conjunction with the Tesco Clubcard card rewards scheme.
The price was good, the hire voucher arrived quickly so no problems there.
The problem arose when I went to collect the car from Budget. As usual the rep tried to get me to upgrade to a bigger vehicle and assured me that he would give me a really good upgrade price. An upgrade wasn't really necessary as I have travelled to Florida a lot and know the size of the cars but I had a look at the upgrade car anyway.
I decided it wasn't necessary and then the rep told me that they didn't have the size of car I'd ordered and offered me a smaller and significabtly cheaper car "until we get yours in".
I told the rep that wasn't acceptable and they would have to upgrade me free of charge as is standard practice.
The rep made a big deal of this telling me that the upgraded car was actually already booked out to another customer. If that was the case why did he try to sell me the upgrade in the first place?
After a great deal of wrangling and arguing the rep eventually agreed to the free upgrade again "when yours comes in we will ring you"
I never heard from them again (no surprise there)

As an experienced traveller I knew how to deal with this problem but I wonder if a less experienced person may have fallen for this trick.

On top of the frustration and annoyance caused I was at the hire desk for almost two hours while I argued.

It's not really acceptable.

The car was clean and well presented. my only criticism what I had to pay for a tank of fuel and return it empty, I was never going to use a tank full so lost out by having to pay for a tank!

If I were to be picky, we rang the problem line, left a message with the required info and heard nothing. In the meantime, and after 10 or so mins we rang the main sales line to be told it was being sorted out and we would receive a call. We got the call 10 mins later with details of our replacement car. A brief confirmation call of our problem would have been appreciated. In the end they sorted it out pretty quickly.

, August 30, 2012 @ 12:26 pm Used for a our family holiday to Portugal at Easter. The car was fine, staff were helpful and spoke using good English, which is useful as I dont speak any Portugease!
The petrol purchase is a bit of a rip off... you are given and pay for a full tank of fuel and are encouraged to use as much as you can and bring the car back as close to empty as possible. Given the economoy and performance of new cars this is always going to prove difficult to use a full tank on a weeks family holiday. Took the car back with a half tank of fuel left. So the company are easiliy making a half tank of fuel per hire.

Minor issue when we discovered a dent on the door when we collected the vehicle but we notified the offcie straight away and we had no furher problem. Easy drop off too. Would try and use Sixt again over any other rental company. Great price too!

, August 14, 2012 @ 10:03 am I rented from SIXT during my most recent trip to Florida and I have to say the experience was great. They were cheaper than everyone else and didn't try to force insurance or any other product on my when I picked up the car. Although you have to take a shuttle from the airport to get there it is totally worth it since the in airport agency have ridiculously long lines. I would definitely rent from them again.

, July 15, 2012 @ 11:37 pm After reading some mixed reviews about car hire in general from car hire companies at Alicante airport, I decided to book with Sixt who seemed to have slightly better reviews than the other companies. I'm glad I did as I cannot fault the experience at all. Firstly, due to the concerns I had and the fact I was travelling with my pregnant wife and young daughter, I emailed Gary Coughlan, the customer service manager at Sixt to raise my concerns and he reassured me that we were in safe hands. Secondly, the representative at the airport was extremely helpful and polite, answering all my questions. Thirdly, the vehicle I was given was exactly as ordered and was in first class condition and was completely reliable throughout our 2 week hire. Lastly, the returning of the vehicle was extremely smooth and straight forward, exactly as per the instructions given to me initially. I cannot recommend the company highly enough based on my experience and will certainly look to use them again in the future.

, July 13, 2012 @ 12:52 pm Initial difficulty in trying to contact company at Brisbane airport, collection details and how to contact to arrange shuttle not clear. Luckily we had someone with us who was able to drive us to company office to collect car.

Once there collection was efficient, and vehicle totally servicable and as ordered.
No issues during the hire period and dropoff was again efficient and transfer back to airport prompt.
Would certainly use again, but initla advice to hirer re initla collection procedures could be clearer.

Received a nice quick check in for car but sadly had to wait about half an hour for it to be delivered to us, this had a knock on effect and we were held up on the QEW at rush hour! That being said it was an excellent van a Chrysler Town & Country with lots of gadgets for hubby to play with. Checking back in on the way home was quick and simple too. Highly recommended.

The thing that has let them down is the preparation of the car, not always ready on time (on one occaision I had to wait an hour) and on another occaision car had no parcel shelf (I had to wait twenty minutes while they went back to base to pick one up)
Other than that I have had no problems with their cars.

We booked an Intermediate SUV through DiscountFloridaCarHire.co.uk which uses AffordableCarHire.co.uk for our Sept 2011 holiday. I had read stories about car hire companies hard selling additional insurances but when I landed at Sanford Airport, Orlando I didn't experience any of this. No queuing and walked straight out to our waiting Ford Escape. Really easy, straight forward and no hassle. I was a little worried about driving in Florida as it would be my first time but very quickly relaxed and enjoyed every moment of it.
